MLB Trade Deadline Predictions 2025: Who’s Buying, Who’s Selling, Who’s Moving
Track all 2025 MLB deadline predictions, rumors, and trade candidates. Follow the hot stove and see who’s buying and selling.
Who doesn’t love a little bit of controlled chaos? Because, that’s exactly what the MLB Trade Deadline is every season.
The Deadline is the final opportunity during the season for teams to deal players from one club to another. The 2025 MLB Deadline is on July 31 at 6 pm ET.
And yes, that has changed slightly over the past few seasons.
Prior to the most recent CBA, the Trade Deadline was a bit different. Before 2019, July 31 was known as the “non-waiver Trade Deadline,” meaning, players could be traded during August, if they cleared revocable waivers first.
But yes, back to this year’s chaos.
As contenders hunt for missing pieces and rebuilders look to the future, rumors swirl, blockbuster deals shake up standings (ahem, Rafael Devers), and fans across the baseball world hole their breath.
If you are indeed holding your breath, you’re either manifesting your team’s next big move, eyeing rental arms, or trying to predict who’s buying and who’s selling before the calendar flips to August.
Wherever you stand, however, this is your all-in-one hub for 2025 MLB Trade Deadline predictions, rumors, and real-time updates.
Which direction are the Red Sox going? Selling more pieces? Or making more moves now that Devers’ salary is off the books? Is Dave Dombrowski — who never shies away from a big move — going to make a last splash with this Phillies core? How much better are the Dodgers going to get between now and August?
There are so many questions.
And we’ve got so many answers.

Buy vs Sell Tracker
The MLB Hot Stove is burning hot. Here’s which teams are buyers and who are sellers at the deadline:
Who Are the Buyers?
Looking at the standings right now, there are a handful of teams in each league that are toggling the line better, being buyers and sellers right now. At the very top of each league, though, there are no-doubt contenders who are getting ready to gear up for a postseason run.
Here are the following teams that we can call certified buyers within a week of the trade deadline. Click on the teams listed below, and you will be taken to our full deadline guides for each team, where we break down what they need to acquire at this year’s deadline.
NL Buyers
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Chicago Cubs
- New York Mets
- Philalelphia Phillies
- San Diego Padres
- San Francisco Giants
AL Buyers
Who Are the Sellers?
Trying to gauge who will aggressively sell, and who will just listen on their players, is a tough thing to do. When we see a team like the Diamondbacks get out in front of the market and trade Josh Naylor, that’s a clear signal for what stance they will take at the deadline. But many teams don’t make it that easy.
Here’s our best look into what teams will be making moves as sellers at this year’s trade deadline. Click the links on each team to learn more about what they have to sell in trade talks.
NL Sellers
- Colorado Rockies
- Washington Nationals
- Pittsburgh Pirates
- Atlanta Braves

It’s Time for the Angels To Trade Taylor Ward
The Angels are never predictable, especially not when it comes to the trade deadline. Still, it would be surprising if they didn’t try to capitalize on Taylor Ward’s strong season by shipping him off in the coming days.
On a thin trade market, a hitter like Ward (25 HR, 117 wRC+) who still has one more year of arbitration eligibility remaining in 2026 should be a hot commodity. Indeed, Just Baseball’s Clay Snowden argues that, of the players the Angels could realistically trade, “Ward likely nets them the greatest return.”
Snowden continues that if the Angels can add a pair of prospects to the back end of their organizational top 10, they should absolutely jump on such a deal. But will the Angels actually make the logical move? Only time will tell.
What Will it Take for the Red Sox to Trade Jarren Duran?
The Boston Red Sox are caught in between being a buyer and seller at this year’s deadline, as rumors continue to swirl around their 2024 All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran. With the Padres being persistent in trying to land Duran, could we see other contenders like the Mets or the Phillies enter the bidding?
In our latest article, we dive into three Mock Trade Packages for Duran and why the Phillies may be the team that has the best package to land him at the deadline.
Which Top MLB Closers Could Be Traded at the Deadline?
Trading for a closer can come at a steep cost, but it can also be the difference in winning it all. Check out our breakdown of each of the top closers available here!
The Pittsburgh Pirates Are Going to Sell, But What?
The Pittsburgh Pirates are clearly going to be sellers at the trade deadline, but determining what will be on the table is far more difficult. There are plenty of rumors that Mitch Keller will be moved, but Bailey Falter presents an intriguing case to be moved as well.
Veteran rentals like Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Tommy Pham should likely be on the move, and even longtime fixtures like Ke’Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds could be shopped as well. Read the latest stories we have on one of the clear sellers at the deadline.
The Twins Have Pieces To Sell… If They Take That Path
The Minnesota Twins finished the first half with the second-best record in their division. Unfortunately, they’re in the same division as the only team in baseball with a winning percentage above .600: the Detroit Tigers. So, that means the second-place Twins are 11.5 games back in the AL Central.
They’re only four games back of an AL Wild Card berth, but they trail the Yankees, Red Sox, Mariners, Rays, and Rangers, and they’re tied with the Angels. So, the Twins aren’t out of postseason contention, but their path to the playoffs is filled with obstacles. Could they choose an easier path instead?
If the Twins decide to sell, they could sell high on superstar Byron Buxton and stud closer Jhoan Duran. They would also have some of the most sought-after rentals on the trade market in super-utility man Willi Castro and lefty reliever Danny Coulombe.
However, FanSided’s Robert Murray suggests the Twins are not yet considering selling. He also notes that All-Star starter Joe Ryan is likely off the table in trade talks, at least as of right now.
