Bo Davidson Is Cementing Himself As One of Baseball’s Best Outfield Prospects
After a disappointing start to the season, the Giants' outfield prospect is proving why he should be a consensus top-100 prospect.
It’s been close to two decades since the San Francisco Giants have had a system with the amount of upside it currently holds. Through the draft, deadline deals, and international finds, they’ve found a handful of prospects looking to shape the next era of Giants baseball.
The system is headlined by a trio of uber-talented shortstop prospects. Josuar Gonzalez, Luis Hernandez, and Jhonny Level are three teenagers who find themselves comfortably within Just Baseball’s Top 100 Prospects list.
However, the fourth Giant to land on the list is an outfielder with a bit of a different story. Bo Davidson, Just Baseball’s No. 99 overall prospect, has gone from a community college non-prospect who stepped away from the game at one point to the best outfielder within San Francisco’s system in just a few years.
Now, with an absurd month of June, he’s cementing himself as one of the more talented outfield prospects in all of baseball.
A Slow Start
Since getting signed in 2023, all Davidson had done is mash. From the start of 2024 to the end of 2025, he posted some of the best offensive numbers in the system.
The sweet-swinging lefty hit .296/.397/.513 with a 148 wRC+ and .909 OPS. He added 29 home runs and 122 RBIs in 177 games between the two years while swiping 26 bags.
While the strikeout rate was slightly elevated at 23.4%, Davidson mitigated that with a 13.5% walk rate. It was clear that the Giants had a blossoming star within their system, which was a welcome addition considering the lack of high-upside outfield depth within the organization.
With some strong development in the outfield to go along with the offensive displays, Davidson found his name on a handful of top 100 lists, including Just Baseball’s.
This rightfully placed some healthy expectations on his shoulders heading into 2026, with some fans even expecting a late season debut for the now 23-year-old.
However, he didn’t exactly light the world on fire to start the season the way many expected him to. In 38 games between April 7 and May 31, Davidson was disappointing.
While he still launched six homers, he hit just .243 with a .707 OPS and 86 wRC+. It was a surprising development considering the fact that he saw time with the big-league club in spring training and how good he was in years prior.
A Return to Form
Naturally, fans were extremely underwhelmed with the signs Davidson was showing. However, thanks to an insane month of June, he’s brought his season numbers to a much more familiar place.
While it was looking like a forgettable season for the outfield prospect, it now looks like a promotion to Triple-A is in his near future.
After hitting six home runs through the first two months of the year, Davidson has launched 11 through the month of June. This has catapulted him towards to the top of the Eastern League in a handful of counting stats, including the third highest total in home runs and fourth in RBIs.
With a .309 average, 1.072 OPS, and 166 wRC+ on top of the onslaught of home runs, it was pretty easily one of the best months of Davidson’s professional career. All of a sudden, he’s in the midst of another impressive minor-league campaign.
| AVG | OPS | wRC+ | HR | RBI | |
| Pre-June | .243 | .707 | 86 | 6 | 26 |
| Now | .264 | .851 | 117 | 18 | 50 |
Not only has Davidson come along at the plate throughout 2026, but real developments have come in terms of his outfield defense. On a recent episode of The Call Up, Aram Leighton had this to say about Davidson’s defense:
“The thing that I think gets me the most excited about Davidson too, is the development in center field… This is an above average center fielder. At worst, this is an average center fielder.”
– Aram Leighton
Leighton went on to highlight two games this year in which Davidson hit a home run as well as robbed one within the same game. Even though he wasn’t the most talented defender when originally picked up by San Francisco, he’s come a long way in that department.
Final Thoughts
Even with the underwhelming start to the 2026 campaign, Bo Davidson has completed taken over the Eastern League since the beginning of June. With some impressive minor league seasons already under his belt, it very well could be the best professional month of his career.
There’s no question Davidson is the best outfield prospect within the Giants system, but now is proving why it should be a consensus that he’s one of the better outfield prospects in the entire sport.
He brings an entertaining blend of power, speed, and athleticism that we don’t see all that often, especially in San Francisco. If it all comes together, he could turn into a well-above-average big leaguer.
However, even if he develops into the strong side of a platoon in San Francisco, his tools would be a welcome addition.
While the Giants’ future is currently on the backs of a couple of teenage infield prospects, Davidson offers intriguing upside in a farm system with few highly touted outfield prospects.
It may not be until 2027, but Bay Area fans should start to get excited about what Bo Davidson can bring to the table for their ball club.
