New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers

6:40 PM Eastern

Carlos Rodon enters Detroit with just 36 IP on the year after missing the start of the season due to injury. His 3.50 ERA and 0.75 HR/9 are impressive, but the Yankees lost both of his starts versus the Tigers in 2025.

Opposing teams generated 6 runs off of 11 hits and a pair of dingers over Rodon’s last two starts. Meanwhile, the Tigers offense has somehow woken up from a deep slumber, scoring 4 or more runs in each of their last 4 games.

Detroit’s star rookie, Kevin McGonigle, remains atop many experts’ lists for AL Rookie of the Year. This is not without merit. Through 75 games McGonigle carries a .285 AVG and an .817 OPS with 6 home runs. Although he has yet to face Rodon, left-handed bats have fared better in the limited sample size of 36 innings. Rodon has allowed an opposing batting average of .250 with a .500 slugging percentage and 14.8% barrel rate to lefties.

Let’s look at the two main lines for Kevin McGonigle today, total bases, and hits/runs/RBI combination.

McGonigle o 1.5 bases (+145 at BetMGM) compared to McGonigle o 1.5 H/R/RBI (+100 at BetMGM)

The shortstop cleared the 1.5 H/R/RBI mark in 4 of his last 10, but 53% of his 75 games this season. For bases, the trend is reversed and recent performance has outperformed the season-long data. McGonigle has averaged 2 bases per game over his last 10, clearing the line in exactly 50% of those mid-June games. For the year, just 29 of 75 (39%),

I am sticking with the value here and trusting the rookie who has batted .318 with a .969 OPS over the past 7 days. Rodon typically lasts 5 or 6 innings and McGonigle should get two or three looks at him.
