New York Yankees at Philadelphia Phillies

Ryan Weathers takes the bump for the Yankees in Citizens Bank Park tonight. It may sound odd to be eyeing a couple of left-handed hitters against a lefty arm, but here we are.

Weathers gives up far more power to right-handed bats, but lefties hit .287 off of him. His 4.40 ERA and 10.1% barrel rate allowed could spell trouble in Philly. Right-handers Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, and J.T. Realmuto combine for 3-for-14 lifetime against Weathers. Not very appealing.

Lucky for us (and not-so-lucky for Ryan Weathers), the Phillies offense is led by 3 all-star lefties. Brandon Marsh singled in his only at bat head-to-head. However, his heavier-handed teammates have exploded for some serious power numbers.

Kyle Schwarber has 3 hits in 6 at bats versus Weathers. All 3 went for extra bases, and a pair of them left the yard. Bryce Harper has enjoyed similar success going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. These numbers are tough to ignore, so I’m sure Boone will only allow them to see Weathers a couple of times tonight. That may be enough though!

Neither guy has crushed it since the All-Star Break ended, but this is already factored into the prices you are getting at BetMGM. Harper has cleared 1.5 hits/runs/RBI in 5 of his last 10 games and 52 of his 103 games this year. It feels like -115 is fair here, add in a solid matchup and I like a very slight edge.

Schwarber’s line carries a bit more inherent risk. He has struggled over his last 20 games, averaging just 1.3 hits/runs/RBI. At the -110 price tag I am factoring in the success of the Harper and Marsh batting behind him. Further, if there is one thing we know about Schwarber it’s that one swing is all it takes.
