Utah Talons’ Elite Pitching Duo Drives Championship Berth

The Utah Talons have clinched the number one seed heading into the postseason and have a bye straight into the championship series.

For the second year in a row, the Talons have to chance to take home the crown. They won it all in 2025, taking down the Bandits in two games. However, the expansion draft switched rosters of each team around and the Talons came back to 2026 with a slew of new players.

The one constant? Georgina Corrick and Montana Fouts, the backbone of the Talons’ pitching staff. The two were declared protected players, meaning they couldn’t be selected in the expansion draft. Now, they’re back to leading the Talons’ straight into another championship.

There’s no argument that the Talons’ have one of, if not the most, talented pitching staff in the league. The two are truly remarkable and are going to be hard to take down once, let alone twice. But, upsets happen, as we’ve seen throughout the season.

Georgina Corrick

As it currently stands, Corrick is leading the league in ERA two years in a row. Last season, she posted a 2.08 ERA across 12 appearances. She ended with a 7-0 record after starting six games. She threw 40.1 innings, letting up just 33 hits and 18 walks while claiming 29 strikeouts.

This season, she made a late start coming off the reserve list on June 23, but has made another quick impact. She holds a league-leading 1.12 ERA through 37.2 innings pitched. She’s allowed 29 hits and earned 25 strikeouts.

Opponents only hit .204 off Corrick, the second-lowest of eligible pitchers in the league, and beat only by her own teammate.

Corrick is a league veteran, joining in 2022 after graduating from South Florida. As a Bull she held a career ERA of 1.04, dipping as low as 0.66 during her senior season. That season she tossed over 270 innings in 48 appearances.

She headed straight into the 2022 AUX league where she earned an almost career-best 2.14 ERA.

Montana Fouts

A frontrunner for pitcher of the year, Fouts has been the Talons’ most consistent contributor this season. She leads both the team and the league in innings pitched with 62.1 and has accumulated a 2.36 ERA.

She’s started nine games and pitched seven complete, including one shutout. She’s thrown almost double the amount of strikes as she has balls and has just one wild pitch.

Fouts leads the league in strikeouts with 63 and has just ten walks. She’s let up just 23 runs and batters hit .200 against her.

Fouts is in her third season with AUSL after a stellar run at Alabama. With the Crimson Tide she posted a 1.66 career ERA across 852.2 innings pitched. She totaled 1,181 strikeouts, ranked second in Alabama program history.

Drafted in the ninth round (35th overall) of the inaugural draft, Fouts was passed over for several other pitchers before the Talons took a chance. A star coming out of college, it raises a question of why she was overlooked. Regardless, the Talons must be grateful they picked up their ace.

Race to College Station

The Talons had to secure one win over the Bandits in their last series to claim the number one seed. Fouts pitched game one and was flawless through seven as the game went into extras tied 0-0. After the first inning, Fouts retired 19 batters in a row, including ten strikeouts.

Talons scored one in the top of the eighth, but the Bandits came back to score two off Fouts in the bottom of the inning. Fouts was near perfect, with just one of those runs being earned.

Heading into the second game, the Talons laid everything on the line to bypass the play-in game. Corrick earned the start in the circle. She went all seven innings, letting up just one run on two hits and earning the win to send the Talons straight to the championship series.

In this last series, Corrick and Fouts combined for three runs, two of them earned, two walks, and 14 strikeouts.

Headlining the Championship

The Talons have a well deserved break until Saturday where they’ll play game one of the championship series. They’ll face the winner of the Bandits/Cascade play-in game.

Obviously, any team is looking for a sweep, taking the series in just two games. For the Talons pitching staff, a dream scenario would have Corrick pitch an entire game and Fouts pitch an entire game.

If the series goes to game three, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Corrick or Fouts pitch again, as they often do in pro and college ball.

This duo could be electric this weekend as the Talons look to take a second straight championship win. Fouts and Corrick are the pitching standard of the AUSL and have set the bar high.
