The Pickoff

Total bases or hits/runs/RBI props? Which is the better choice when data trends and metrics all point to a player having a big game? We are putting these props to the test in The Pickoff.

Current Tracker and Recap

Through our first three days, no player has cashed one play without the other, even with Ohtani’s line hitting 2.5 hits/runs/RBI.

If this trend continues, maybe taking the better odds for total bases is the way to go. We have seen a solid return on investment of 18.56% in our bases plays. Although, the less favorable pricing for combinations has led to just a 1.66% return across our small sample size.

Yesterday’s picks centered around hot bats, and it was our weakest performing day thus far. Today, we will focus on three players with appetizing head-to-head matchups being the most heavily weighed decision factor.

Best MLB Props Today

Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers

2:10 PM Eastern

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – OCTOBER 04: (L-R) Seiya Suzuki #27 of the Chicago Cubs greets manager Craig Counsell #11 prior to game one of the Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field on October 04, 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

Brandon Woodruff has been solid since returning to the Milwaukee Brewers’ rotation. He is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA through 36 innings pitched. He will get the ball for Sunday’s rubber match and take on a surging Cubs lineup.

Seiya Suzuki has found consistent success against Woodruff. The right-handed slugger has 5 hits in 11 at bats. Of the 5, 3 of those hits went for extra bases and 1 left the yard. Throw in a walk as well and Suzuki has put together a batting average of .455 and an OPS of 1.371 off of Woodruff.

Suzuki also happens to be tearing the Brewers apart this series. He went 1-for-2 with a home run on Friday night and 2-for-5 with a home run yesterday. He’s driven in 4 runs through the first couple of games of this series and is looking to add to that total tonight.

TheDannyClassic’s Picks of the Day

Seiya Suzuki o 1.5 bases (+140 at BetMGM)

Seiya Suzuki o 1.5 H/R/RBI (+110 at BetMGM)

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres

4:10 PM Eastern

The Padres and Dodgers just finished two one-sided slugfests with opposite results. The Dodgers will look to repeat Saturday’s laser show against Michael King. This will be a much tougher task, as King has been the bright spot in the San Diego rotation with an ERA of 3.33 and giving up just under one home run per 9 innings.

Shohei Ohtani is back on our list today, as he has not made Michael King’s life easy. In 19 at bats head-to-head, Ohtani has 8 hits and only 3 of those went for singles. He has 3 home runs and a couple of walks to round out an OPS of 1.476 when hitting off King.

Ohtani is averaging 2.2 hits/runs/RBI and 1.8 bases per game across his last 10 contests. Don’t discount how much he absolutely loves beating the Padres either.

TheDannyClassic’s Picks of the Day

Shohei Ohtani o 1.5 bases (+100 at BetMGM)

Shohei Ohtani o 1.5 H/R/RBI (-150 at BetMGM) or up to 2.5 H/R/RBI (+120 at BetMGM)

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox

7:20 PM Eastern

Ben Rice has been one of my favorite players to take total bases props on. For a guy with an OPS of .934 and 22 home runs through 77 games, his lines still seem to have some value built in more often than not.

The Red Sox have shocked the Yankees in each of the first 3 games of this series. Rice has been kept hitless through 10 at bats. I don’t see this trend continuing.

Sonny Gray has put together a solid campaign this year with his new team. His tenure may be short lived as the Red Sox seem certain to be sellers at the trade deadline, but his 9-1 record and sub-3.00 ERA are undeniably good.

Ben Rice hasn’t had the most extensive history versus Gray, but made the most of the matchup each time. He has walked twice and gone 3-for-4 with 2 home runs while victimizing Gray. That’s a head-to-head OPS of 3.083 but who’s counting?

TheDannyClassic’s Picks of the Day

Ben Rice o 1.5 bases (+100 at BetMGM)

Ben Rice o 1.5 H/R/RBI (-140 at BetMGM)
