Week eight of the college baseball season brings us closer to the midpoint of the season, and the middle portion of our rankings appear to be more cloudy every week.

UCLA continues a string of dominance that is difficult to quantify in its own right, having rattled off 22 consecutive wins with this week’ s sweep over in-state rival USC.

Let’s get right into this week’s biggest risers, biggest sliders, and other key storylines around the college baseball landscape.

Biggest Risers

Nebraska continues to roll, having won their last 10 games with a sweep over Penn State. Shortstop Dylan Carey, who has been the most under-appreciated superstar in the nation, leads the way with 44 RBI and eight home runs, both of which lead the Huskers.

UCF catapults up the rankings with a massive series win over West Virginia in Morgantown, as the Knights are leading the Big 12 with a 10-2 record. Led by an explosive offense, they appear to be the team to beat.

Missouri State finally cracks the rankings with another home sweep over Sam Houston and a big midweek win over Arkansas in heroic fashion thanks to Caden Bogenpohl. The Bears remain unbeaten at home and look to close the gap for the CUSA lead this week against Delaware.

Biggest Sliders

Florida continues to play the hot-cold game this season, coming off a more complete series, but lost to Ole Miss in Gainesville. Sitting at 7-5 in SEC play with a solid resume all things considered, we continue to wait for the Gators to put together consecutive weeks of good baseball.

Oklahoma suffered their second straight series loss at the hands of arguably the hottest team in the country in Alabama in an ultra competitive weekend where the Tide would walk away with a crucial road win. The Sooners will look to bounce back in a big way at Vanderbilt next weekend.

USC faces the first blemish on their resume, albeit on the road against the best team in the country. The Trojans, much to our surprise, gave up over 10 runs per game as they struggled to hold down the Bruins offense despite the dominant start the staff had.

Others Receiving Votes

Jacksonville State sits atop Conference USA with a 12-0 record but sits just outside the rankings again. Don’t be surprised to see them in next week.

Kansas has quietly rattled off six straight wins going back to last weekend’s series win over Cincinnati, adding to a sweep over a red-hot Utah team.

Other Key Storylines

Texas State shortstop Chase Mora officially holds the program record for home runs, breaking Paul Goldschmidt’s record with his 36th on Friday Night.

We got arguably the best midweek game of the season in an extra inning thriller between Missouri State and Arkansas, the Bears walked away with a walk off win thanks to a Caden Bogenpohl home run.
