The Frontline Favorites
Los Angeles Dodgers: +210
Seeking a third straight championship, the Dodgers come in as the heavy favorites to go back-to-back-to-back to nobody’s surprise.
With a rotation bolstered by the addition of Tarik Skubal this past trade deadline, and second-half upticks in performance by guys like Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker, this squad is as poised as ever to return to the Fall Classic. Finishing the regular season with a bye to the NLDS only further boosts their chances.
Milwaukee Brewers: +550
A September surge in the odds finds the Brewers as the second likeliest winner of the 2026 World Series per BetMGM, and deservedly so.
Unarguably, this was the best regular season squad in all of baseball this year, and they proved that by clinching the league’s best record for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. A team led by ace Jacob Misiorowski is a nightmare for any opponent that walks into American Family Field.
Tampa Bay Rays: +800
After locking up the American League East division in late September, the Rays pulled to within even odds of the once more heavily favorited New York Yankees to win the World Series.
With Junior Caminero leading the pack and making a notable push for MVP, the Rays find themselves as the AL’s top seed. Not to mention the elite rotation led by Drew Rasmussen and second-half bounce-back candidate Freddy Peralta.
New York Yankees: +800
What once was the season-long runner-up to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees have fallen to T-3rd in World Series winner odds.
After losing out on the division and drawing the tough Boston Red Sox in a three-game Wild Card Series, the Yankees will lean heavily on their pitching staff to advance this postseason. Aaron Judge’s availability plays a huge factor in the team’s odds moving forward.
Middle-of-the-Pack Playoff Contenders
Cleveland Guardians: +1200
Favored tremendously by the current playoff format, the 85-77 Cleveland Guardians find themselves as the AL’s two seed in this year’s playoffs and a bye to the divisional round even though they finished with the fourth best record.
A rotation led by breakout stars Gavin Williams and Parker Messick will have to carry this team if they hope to go far, although the competition coming out of the #3 vs #6 Wild Card doesn’t strike much fear into anybody.
Atlanta Braves: +1500
Unfortunately a Wild Card-round team, the 94-win Atlanta Braves draw the limping Phillies in a three-game set at home. If they advance as many predict, the Dodgers loom as their opponents in a NLDS. It’s not the easiest of paths, but Chris Sale having another renaissance season and Matt Olson being Mr. Reliable like he always is will have to be what this team banks on.
Boston Red Sox: +1600
Looking absolutely dead in the water early on, the Red Sox had a historical summer to catapult them back into contention. “Selling the farm” for Adley Rutschman at this year’s past trade deadline in an in-division trade with the Orioles signified to the players from the front office that they are going for it. Although, they draw a tough round one matchup on the road in the Bronx.
Chicago Cubs: +1800
A tale of two extremes, the 2026 Chicago Cubs represent the definition of such. With an offense that led MLB in wRC+ and a pitching staff that finished 28th in fWAR, this team will undeniably be fun to watch if they go on a run this postseason. How much can PCA and co. carry a pitching staff decimated by injuries to the promised land?
Philadelphia Phillies: +1800
It took until the last day of the regular season, but the Phillies finally clinched a postseason berth, fending off the pesky Arizona Diamondbacks.
Injuries have not been kind to this club, and having to start Zack Wheeler in game 162 only hurts their chances in a Wild Card series on the road in Atlanta. If the Phillies somehow find a way to escape the series with a victory, they’ll have the Dodgers waiting for them too. A nice caveat is that the further they go, the injured players like Luis Arraez and Jesús Luzardo should become more available.
San Diego Padres: +1900
Red hot down the stretch, the Padres went from fringe #6 seed to locking up the #4 seed and home-field advantage in the Wild Card round. They’ll draw a Cubs team that can mash for sure, but the Padres arguably have the best bullpen in the sport. Should they advance, the top-seeded Brewers await, and facing Misiorowski in Game 1 on the road would be tough for any team.
We’re In, Now What?
Houston Astros: +2200
Making history in an interesting way, the Houston Astros are the worst division winner by record of all time. Finishing 81-81 – and with a worse record than their opponent that they’ll host in the Wild Card series – the Astros will have to lean on their previous postseason pedigree to carry them.
AL MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez and shortstop Jeremy Peña make a dynamic tandem at the top of the lineup, but the pitching staff is a bunch of question marks after Hunter Brown and Josh Hader.
Chicago White Sox: +4000
Even though they come last in odds out of all the playoff teams this year, White Sox fans would tell you the team is trending up. After losing 102 games just the season prior, making the postseason feels like a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately for them, as mentioned above, they don’t get to host a playoff game unless they advance to the ALDS, even though they had a better record than the Astros, due to the current playoff format.

Key Takeaways and 2026 World Series Thoughts
As broken down above, there are obvious groupings you could place each major league team into. Some teams fare better than others in the odds due to favorable matchups or the structure of the 2026 playoff format, but it’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
At +210, BetMGM provides an implied probability of 32.26% that the Dodgers will three-peat as champions, with the closest team being the Milwaukee Brewers at +550 (15.38%).
It’s worth dissecting that each team’s chances to win the World Series, as broken down by implied probability, do not collectively add up to 100%, due to vigorish added in by BetMGM or any sportsbook, for that matter.
The Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, Brewers, Red Sox, and Rays all seem to be the main contenders this year, with the Guardians, Phillies, Cubs, and Padres, followed by the White Sox and Astros just a notch below them.
