Live from Day 2 of the MLB Draft Combine in Phoenix, Just Baseball’s Conor Dorney sat down with one of the top high school shortstops in the country, the Newton, Georgia native Dax Kilby.

Committed to Clemson and known for his all-around athleticism and smooth left-handed swing, Kilby opened up about his path to the Combine, what it’s been like meeting with MLB executives, and the goals he’s set for himself both on and off the field. “Baseball’s been my whole life,” Kilby said. “It’s just putting in work every day, and that’s how I got here.”

Kilby talked about the competitive energy at the Combine, from getting swings in the cage to connecting with top players from around the country.

When asked who he models his game after, he pointed to Christian Yelich and Jackson Merrill, players he admires for their approach and versatility. But perhaps most impressive was Kilby’s maturity and self-awareness.

“I just try to stay within myself and not let the moment get too big,” he said.

Off the field, Kilby keeps things simple, he’s an outdoors guy who loves golf, fishing, and even a competitive game of pickleball when he has the time.

With the Draft quickly approaching, he’s focused on development and growth, both as a player and a person. This interview gives fans a great window into who Dax Kilby is not just as a prospect, but as a grounded, thoughtful competitor who’s just getting started.
