Troy Extends Head Coach Skylar Meade

After leading the Trojans to a 39-32 record in a magical 2026 season that included the program’s first hosted Super Regional and Omaha appearance, Troy locked down its head coach, Skylar Meade, to a four-year extension that includes a one-year continuation. He is now rumored to be the highest-paid coach in the Sun Belt Conference.

Along with Meade, associate head coach Ben Walgamot earned a salary increase as the school continues to push forward in its investment in the baseball program after reaching new heights in Meade’s fourth season with the Trojans.

Taking his first head coaching job with Troy prior to the 2022 season after spending the previous 13 years as a pitching coach at Eastern Illinois (2009-2012), Middle Tennessee State (2013-2014), Michigan State (2015-2017), and South Carolina (2018-2021), Meade has already made a significant impact in his short time at the school.

In just a five-year tenure, Meade has accumulated a 187-132 record, with four of his five seasons finishing with 35-plus wins and all five ending with at least 32 wins and a winning record.

This program and staff run deeper than just wins on the books, as 2026 produced four MLB Draft picks — Aaron Piasecki, Benjamin Stubbs, Zach Crotchfelt, and Dylan Alonso — the most in a single draft for the school since 1999.

The 2026 season also included the Sun Belt Player of the Year in sophomore catcher Jimmy Janicki, who slashed .343/.415/.664 with 21 home runs and 87 RBI, good for a tie for second nationally. Janicki announced in June via Twitter that he’d be returning to Troy for his junior season and is poised to be a high draft selection come the 2027 MLB Draft.

With the school’s promise to coach Meade and the investment shown in funding the entire coaching staff, the Trojans continue to lean into player development and build one of the top-tier mid-major programs in the country.
